How to destroy a PDF

1
Upload your PDF or PDFs from your device, or pull them from Google Drive, Dropbox, or OneDrive. Nothing is uploaded to a server - the whole tool runs inside your browser.
2
Pick a destruction method in the options panel: Shred turns pages into shredded paper strips, Blackout makes them solid black, and Blank leaves them completely empty. The page previews show exactly what the result will look like.
3
By default the whole document is destroyed. To destroy only some pages, click them in the workspace or type a page range like 3-7, 12 - the remaining pages are kept unchanged. Optionally stamp DESTROYED across destroyed pages or add a certificate of destruction page.
4
Click Destroy PDF. The output is rebuilt from scratch, so destroyed pages contain nothing from the original and can never be recovered. Download it, save it to the cloud, or send it into another tool.

Why use our Destroy PDF tool

Truly irreversible
The output file is built from scratch: destroyed pages carry no text, images, fonts, hidden layers or metadata from the original, so the content cannot be recovered by any means.
Three destruction methods
Shred replaces pages with a shredded-strip pattern, Blackout with solid black pages, and Blank with completely empty pages - pick whichever fits the occasion.
Destroy all or selected pages
One click destroys the whole document, or click pages (or type a range like 3-7, 12) to destroy only those and keep the rest untouched.
DESTROYED stamp
Optionally stamp DESTROYED diagonally across each destroyed page, so anyone opening the file knows at a glance that the content was removed on purpose.
Certificate of destruction
Optionally prepend a certificate page recording the document name, how many pages were destroyed, the method, and the date.
100% in your browser
Files never leave your device - destruction happens locally with no upload, so even we never see the document you are destroying.
Metadata wiped
Title, author, subject, and keywords are cleared in the output, so document properties leak nothing about the original.
Visual page preview
Thumbnails preview the destruction live - switch methods and the overlay updates, so you always see exactly what you will download.
Batch processing
With a free account, destroy up to 3 PDFs at once (80 MB each, 120 MB total). Each gets its own output file. Single-file destruction needs no signup, up to 80 MB.
Free, no watermark
No watermark, no signup needed for single jobs, no per-day cap. Your original file on your device is never modified.

Frequently asked questions

What does Destroy PDF actually do?
It works like a paper shredder for digital documents: it replaces the content of your PDF's pages with a shredded pattern, solid black, or nothing at all, and gives you a new file. Because the output is rebuilt from scratch, the destroyed content is not hidden - it is simply not in the file at all.
Can the destroyed content be recovered?
No. Unlike tools that draw a box over content (where the text often remains underneath), Destroy PDF creates a brand-new document. Destroyed pages contain no text, images, fonts, hidden layers, or metadata from the original, so there is nothing to recover.
What is the difference between Destroy PDF and Redact PDF?
Redact PDF removes specific words or regions while keeping the document readable. Destroy PDF wipes out entire pages or the entire document. Use Redact to hide a phone number; use Destroy when the whole document should stop existing in readable form.
Does my original file get deleted?
No. The original PDF on your device is never touched. You download a destroyed copy - what you do with the original afterwards is up to you.
Can I destroy only some pages?
Yes. Click the pages you want in the workspace (or type a range like 3-7, 12, 15-18). Only the selected pages are destroyed; the rest are kept in the output exactly as they were. If you select nothing, the whole document is destroyed.
Which destruction method should I choose?
Shred looks like the page went through a paper shredder and makes the destruction obvious. Blackout produces solid black pages, similar to a fully redacted document. Blank produces empty pages, keeping the page count without any visual noise. All three are equally irreversible.
What is the certificate of destruction?
An optional first page added to the output that records the document name, how many pages were destroyed, the method used, and the date - useful when you need to show that a document was disposed of deliberately.
Are my files uploaded to your servers?
No. The entire destruction runs inside your browser using a local PDF engine. Your file never leaves your device, which also makes the tool work offline once the page is loaded.
Can I destroy multiple PDFs at once?
Yes. Batch processing is available with a free account - up to 3 PDFs at once, 80 MB each, 120 MB total. Each file gets its own destroyed output, packaged as a ZIP. Single files work without signing in (up to 80 MB).
Does it work on mobile?
Yes. The tool runs in any modern browser on phone, tablet, or desktop. There is no app to install.
