You get
The same PDF, without protection. Pages, text, images, links and form fields stay as they were; only the encryption is removed.

Works on
Any browser, nothing to install. iPhone, Android, Windows, Mac, Linux and Chromebook.
Privacy
Your password isn't kept. Files are deleted within one hour. In Browser mode, the file and password never leave your device.

How to unlock a PDF

1
Upload your protected PDF — or several at once — from your device, or pull them from Google Drive, Dropbox, or OneDrive. Only password-protected PDFs are accepted: the tool detects encryption and skips any file that isn't locked. Without an account: 1 file, up to 80 MB. With a free account: up to 3 files at once, 80 MB each (120 MB total).
2
Enter the password that opens each file. Unlocking several files that share one password? Turn on the master password to type it just once for the whole batch. If you only forgot an owner password (used for print or copy restrictions, not for opening), use the forgot-password option and confirm you own the file.
3
Click Unlock PDF. We verify the password and strip the encryption from each document.
4
The output is a normal PDF — or a ZIP when you unlock several — that opens straight away, with no password prompt and no editing restrictions.
5
Download your unlocked file, save it back to the cloud, or send it straight into another tool like Edit PDF or Merge — the unlocked PDF is carried across, so there's no re-upload.

Why use our Unlock PDF tool

Password removed cleanly
The encryption layer is stripped from the file, leaving a normal PDF you can open and edit anywhere.
Needs your current password
Enter the password you already use to open the file. We do not crack or guess - just remove what you authorise.
Unlock several at once
With a free account, unlock up to 3 protected PDFs in one batch. Files that share a password can be unlocked with a single master password, and the results come back as a ZIP.
Only protected PDFs
The tool detects encryption and accepts only password-protected files, so there is no confusion about what actually needs unlocking.
Restrictions lifted
Print, copy, and edit limits that were tied to the password are removed at the same time, so you get a fully usable PDF back.
Original quality preserved
Pages, text, images, and metadata are kept exactly as in the source. Only the lock is gone.
Opens anywhere
The unlocked file opens normally in Adobe Acrobat, browsers, mobile readers, and any standards-compliant PDF tool.
Cloud import & save
Pull files from Google Drive, Dropbox, or OneDrive, and save the unlocked PDF straight back - no local download step.
Workflow Ready
Send the unlocked PDF straight into Edit PDF, Merge, or any other tool - the file is carried across, so there is no need to re-upload.
Private and secure
Files are processed over HTTPS and deleted from our servers shortly after the job finishes. Your password is never stored.
Free, no watermark
No watermark on the PDF and no signup needed for a single file; a free account raises the batch to 3 files.

Frequently asked questions

How do I remove a password from a PDF?

Add the PDF in the box above, type its password and click Unlock PDF. You download a copy that opens without asking for a password. It's free, with no watermark and no sign-up.

Can I unlock a PDF without the password?

It depends on the lock. If the PDF opens normally but blocks printing, copying or editing, yes: no password is needed and those restrictions are removed. If the PDF asks for a password to open and you've forgotten it, no: we never crack or guess passwords. Ask the sender for the password or an unprotected copy.

How do I unlock a PDF for printing, copying or editing?

Add the PDF. When it opens without a password and only its permissions are restricted, it's marked accordingly and nothing needs to be typed; click Unlock PDF and the copy you download can be printed, copied from and edited. To change the text afterwards, open it in Editly.

How do I remove the password from a bank statement PDF?

Add the statement and type the password your bank uses for it; banks usually explain it in the email that came with the statement, often a combination of your name, date of birth or customer number. The unlocked copy opens directly, so store it carefully and don't forward it unprotected.

What is the password of an e-Aadhaar PDF?

The e-Aadhaar password is the first four letters of your name as printed on the card, in capital letters, followed by your year of birth, for example SURE1990. Enter it here to save a copy that opens without the password.

How do I unlock a PDF on iPhone, Android or Mac?

Open this page in Safari or Chrome, add the PDF, enter the password if it has one and unlock it. No app is needed; the unlocked PDF is saved to your downloads.

Can I unlock several PDFs at once?

With a free account you can unlock up to 3 PDFs at once (80 MB each, 120 MB in total). Use one shared password for all of them, or give each file its own. The unlocked files download together in one ZIP.

Does unlocking change anything else in my PDF?

No. Only the encryption is removed. Pages, text, fonts, images, links, bookmarks and form fields stay exactly as they were.

Can I unlock a digitally signed PDF?

You can, but removing the protection rewrites the file, so an existing digital signature will no longer validate. Keep the original signed file as your proof and use the unlocked copy for reading, printing or editing.

Why does the PDF still ask for a password after unlocking?

Make sure you opened the downloaded file, which ends in -unlocked.pdf, and not the original. The original file always keeps its password.

Is it legal to unlock a PDF?

Unlocking your own documents, or ones you've been given the password for, is normal. Use the tool only on files you have the right to open and change. It never breaks a password it doesn't know.

What can I do with the PDF after unlocking it?

Send it straight to Editly to edit the text, to PDF to Word to work on it in Word, or to Compress PDF to make it smaller, without uploading it again.

How do I add a password to a PDF?

Use Protect PDF. It encrypts the file with a password of your choice and can also block printing, copying and editing.

Is my password safe?

Yes. The password is sent over an encrypted HTTPS connection, used only to unlock that file and deleted right after. Files are deleted automatically within one hour. In Browser mode, unlocking happens on your own device and neither the file nor the password is uploaded.
