Basic (fast, no OCR) reads the text and tables already stored in a digital PDF, the kind where you can select text. Advanced does the same and also runs OCR on pages that are only an image, such as scans or photographed documents. Pages that already have text are read directly in both modes.

Yes, choose Advanced. Pages without selectable text are read with OCR and turned into rows and columns. The scan's language is detected automatically, from English, German or Russian to Arabic, Hebrew, Hindi or Chinese. It works best with clear, straight scans of printed tables; handwriting and blurry photos give weaker results, so check the figures afterwards. For a digital PDF, Basic is faster and more accurate.

Yes. You get a normal .xlsx workbook where every cell can be edited, sorted and filtered. Numbers written like 1,234.56, 1.234,56, 12,50 €, $99, 15% or (250) are stored as real numbers that keep their currency and percent formatting, so SUM and other formulas work on them straight away.

Rows and columns are rebuilt cell by cell. Each table goes on its own sheet named after its page (P1, P2-T1 and so on), with the header row in bold, frozen at the top and columns sized to fit. The original colours, fonts and merged cells aren't copied, so the result is a clean table rather than a picture of the page.

The first sheet is a summary listing every page, the sheet its table went to, how it was read (digital or OCR) and how many rows it has. After that comes one sheet per table. A page with text but no table has its lines placed one per row, so nothing is silently dropped.

Add the statement you downloaded from online banking and choose Basic. Many banks protect statements with a password; enter it when asked and the conversion goes ahead. For a paper statement you scanned, choose Advanced. Check the closing balance against the PDF afterwards.

Yes, if you know the password. The file is marked as locked when you add it; enter the password once and the conversion continues. Passwords are never cracked or bypassed.

In Excel for Microsoft 365 on Windows, Data > Get Data > From File > From PDF imports tables from a PDF. Use this converter when you don't have that version, when you're on a Mac, phone or tablet, or when you need a scanned PDF read with OCR.

To attach the PDF itself, use Insert > Object > Create from File in Excel for Windows and choose the PDF; it is embedded as an icon or first-page preview. To get the PDF's data into cells you can work with, convert it here instead.
