Frequently Asked Questions
How do I sign a PDF online for free?
Upload your PDF above, choose Signature, then draw, type or upload your signature and click where it should go. Resize or move it if needed and download the signed PDF. It is free, adds no watermark and needs no account.
How do I add or insert my signature into a PDF?
Open the signature panel, create your signature, and click the spot on the page where it belongs. You can drag and resize it before you download, and place more signatures on other pages of the same document.
Can I sign a PDF without creating an account?
Yes. You can sign a PDF and download it without signing up or entering an email address. Sending a PDF to other people for signature doesn't need an account either; you just confirm your email address with a one-time code.
How do I create an electronic signature?
You have three options: draw it with your finger, mouse or a stylus, type your name and pick a signature style, or upload an image of your handwritten signature. Saved signatures stay available while this page is open, so you can place them again without redrawing.
How do I insert a handwritten signature in a PDF?
Sign a sheet of white paper, take a clear photo or scan of it, and upload the image as your signature. Or draw it directly on the screen with your finger, mouse or an Apple Pencil.
Can I fill in and sign a PDF?
Yes. Add text anywhere on the page to fill in names, addresses or blank fields, add the date, then place your signature, all in one place before you download.
How do I send a PDF for someone else to sign?
Choose Send for signature, add up to 20 signers by name and email, place a signing box for each, and send. Every signer gets a secure link that stays valid for the time you set (1 to 60 days, 15 by default). When everyone has signed, the final PDF comes with an Audit Trail and a Certificate of Completion, which can include a QR code and verification code to prove the file hasn't changed. Request documents can be up to 25 MB.
Is an electronic signature legally binding?
Electronic signatures are legally accepted in most countries, under laws such as ESIGN and UETA in the US and eIDAS in the EU. Some documents, such as certain wills or court and government filings, have stricter rules, so check what applies to your document and country.
What's the difference between an electronic and a digital signature?
An electronic signature is any electronic sign of agreement, such as a drawn, typed or uploaded signature, and that is what this tool creates. A digital signature is a specific kind that uses a certificate issued by a certificate authority. Signature requests here end with a Certificate of Completion that records a SHA-256 fingerprint of the signed file and a code to verify it hasn't changed, but if a portal requires a certificate-based digital signature, use the certificate and software that portal names.
Is there a free alternative to Adobe Sign and DocuSign?
Yes. Here you can sign PDFs yourself and send signature requests to up to 20 people for free, with no subscription, no trial and no software to install.
Can I sign a PDF on my phone?
Yes. Open this page in your phone's browser, pick the PDF from your files or cloud storage, and draw your signature with your finger. There is no app to install, and the signed PDF downloads straight to your phone.
How do I sign a PDF that was emailed to me?
Save the attachment to your device, upload it here and sign it, then download the signed PDF and attach it to your reply. You can also create a share link for the signed file after signing.
Why can't I sign my PDF?
Signing is usually blocked because the PDF is password-protected or its security settings don't allow changes. Here you will be asked for the password when one is needed. If the file is locked against editing and you have the right to change it, remove the protection with Unlock PDF first. Open Unlock PDF
Are my files kept private?
Yes. Files travel over HTTPS, are never shared or used for AI training, and PDFs you sign yourself are deleted from our servers within one hour. For signature requests, the document is stored securely so signers can open it until the request expires.
