Frequently asked questions
How do I chat with a PDF for free?
Add your PDF in the box above and type a question, or pick one of the suggested questions. The AI answers from the document's own content. It's free and needs no sign-up.
How do I summarize a PDF with AI?
Upload the PDF and ask for a summary, for example Summarise this document in 5 bullet points. You can then ask follow-up questions about any part that interests you.
Are the answers based only on my document?
Yes. The AI is instructed to answer only from the PDF's content and to say when something isn't in the document, instead of guessing. Where it's clear, it cites the page, so you can check the source.
Can I ask in other languages?
Yes. Ask in your language and the answer comes in the same language, even when the PDF is written in another one. That makes it handy for understanding documents in a foreign language.
Does it work with scanned PDFs?
Yes. Pages that are only an image are read with OCR first. Clear, printed scans give the best results; handwriting and blurry photos may be misread.
Is there a page or size limit?
PDFs up to 5 MB, or 8 MB with a free account. The AI reads about the first 60,000 characters of text, roughly 20 to 30 pages. For a long book or report, use Split PDF and ask about the part you need.
Is it unlimited?
There's a fair-use limit of a few questions per minute and about 20 a day, which keeps the service free and fast for everyone.
Can students use it to study?
Yes. Ask it to summarise a chapter, explain a term, list key points or create practice questions from your notes. Always check important facts against the page it cites.
Can I chat with a password-protected PDF?
Yes, if you know the password. Enter it when asked and the document opens for questions. Passwords are never cracked or bypassed.
Can it translate the whole PDF?
For a full translation that keeps the layout, use Translate PDF. Chat with PDF is best for questions, summaries and explanations.
How do I chat with a PDF on my phone?
Open this page in Safari or Chrome, add the PDF from your phone or cloud storage and start asking. No app is needed.
What happens to my document?
To answer, the PDF's text is sent over an encrypted connection to an AI model run by a third-party provider. The uploaded file is deleted as soon as its text has been read, and the text is kept in memory for about 10 minutes so follow-up questions are quick. Don't upload documents you aren't allowed to share.
